"Not many opera singers come from St. Budeaux in Plymouth, but when my brother was given a place to be a chorister at Exeter Cathedral that all changed. He had an amazing voice and Mum said I used to just stand in the congregation wishing I could be in the choir too, singing along, badly! So I auditioned at the age of 7 and failed, but I kept going and finally got in two years later. When I left Exeter I spent more time playing rugby and football than studying music until one day my brother took me to see Pavarotti perform in a Gala Concert at Hyde Park, London. I watched and listened as this man's voice and persona, as well as the beautiful music that he sang, changed people's states of minds and emotions with each note that he sang. I realised that this I what I wanted to do. So, I went to Truro Cathedral as a Choral Scholar for 3 wonderful years of surfing, singing and playing rugby, before auditioning and getting into the Royal College of Music. Music has completely changed my life and I believe it really can others."
